The EB-5 visa allows immigration to the United States and obtaining a green card through an investment of at least $1,050,000 in the U.S. If the investment is in a high-unemployment area or a rural region, the required investment amount is reduced to $800,000.

To immigrate this way, the investment must create at least ten new jobs. Simply purchasing a home or an existing business is not sufficient. The ten new jobs must be created either directly (through direct hiring by the investor) or indirectly. Additionally, the investor must prove the lawful source of the funds used for the investment. The immigration process via investment is extremely complex, and immigration attorneys often charge tens of thousands of dollars to complete the procedure.

For those without a specific business idea to invest in the U.S., there are so-called Regional Centers—investment packages prepared by private companies designed to attract investors seeking to immigrate to the U.S. There are over 200 approved Regional Centers, and their reliability varies. In any case, there is no guarantee that investors will recoup their investment funds. There have also been cases where individuals used Regional Centers but, for various reasons, their immigration process did not succeed.

Apart from the EB-5 immigrant visa, Greeks engaged in business activities can also use the non-immigrant E-1 visa, which is intended for those involved in trade between Greece and the U.S.
